Preventative Maintenance for Thanksgiving

Well, it's official. The holiday season is upon us. This is a time of joy and stress, all wrapped up together and stuffed into about six weeks. Are you ready for it? Perhaps some "preventative maintenance" will help you not only survive, but thrive the entire season. If you know me, you know the maintenance of which I speak is exercise!

Whether you are stressed about shopping lists, family relations, financial issues, or travel plans, (insert your stress here!) exercise will help you cope. I encourage you to put exercise at the top of your list, especially during this time of year, when it often is completely forgotten. I've written before about the many benefits and you know you need them now.

Search your local area for active events to keep you moving. Many towns hold a "Turkey Trot" on Thanksgiving morning. Whether you run or walk, this is a great way to start your day, which is sure to include calorie-heavy dishes. However, races may not be your only option. Open your mind to other forms of exercise. Many of my clients will be joining me Thanksgiving morning for a fitness boot camp class. You might have similar fitness classes near you. Even if you cannot find a local event, plan to give yourself an hour to exercise. This hour will leave you feeling better physically and emotionally, and will help you feel less guilty about the "big" meal.

Follow up your successful and active Thanksgiving Day with more activity throughout the next several weeks. I challenge you to keep your workout schedule going for the remainder of the year. What are your plans to stay active? I'd love to hear them!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Remember,

Success Can Be Yours!
